Why Do You Love Philadelphia? Answer For a Sweet Prize

You have from now through May 31 to come up with the reason why you’re hopelessly devoted to the city of brotherly love. Better make it good. The city will return the sentiment by giving away a prize each day until the end of the contest.

You can submit your entry at the site and winners will be listed at This week’s prizes are listed and include: an overnight stay at Crowne Plaza Philadelphia Main Line, Ballet X tickets, and $5 Smart Cards from the Philadelphia Parking Authority awarded daily.

We know it’s a bit more difficult to love Philly when it’s raining, but picture yourself at an outdoor table at Bar Ferdinand. Yep. There it is. Your heart is already thawing.

Get Lively at Your Neighborhood Fitness Studio

lithe-methodPhiladelphia is a city full of fitness options that go beyond the gym. Urban yoga studios and method instructors have branched out into neighborhoods where they can offer a more convenient workout that’s close to home.

The Lithe Method has locations in Northern Liberties, Rittenhouse Square, and Ardmore. Lauren Boggi’s signature program combines ballet barre work, Pilates, cardio, and strength training. It’s tougher than it sounds and has garnered quite a following with those who are looking for a unique workout with schedule-friendly classes on weekends and evenings. Boggi maintains a blog called Fit Hip Healthy and her instructors frequently contribute. Each class is a full body workout, but specially targets certain body parts, with names like Waspie, Skinny Jeans, or High Mini. Sign up for an Immersion Class today and take advantage of the New Client Intro – 3 classes for $45. You can drop into a class whenever you want, whether you’re sweating a fun, relaxing session in Rittenhouse or at the Liberties Walk location.

Dhyana Yoga is another neighborhood-friendly yoga studio that has locations in Old City, Rittenhouse Square, West Philadelphia, and the Main Line. So wherever you are in Philadelphia, there’s a Dhyana class happening nearby. They offer a variety of workshops and hold over 125 classes per week, so there’s bound to be something that fits into your schedule.

There’s also a new yoga outpost coming to Northern Liberties. The Sankhya Yoga School and Wellness Center will open a new location at the Media Bureau building on Saturday, March 20. The festivities will begin with a meditation class, yoga session, and vegan snacks afterwards.

Get To Know Some Of Our Realtors At RE/MAX ACCESS!

Tell me a little about yourself…

“I decided to become a Realtor in 2004 after I graduated college from Temple University, mainly because I enjoy helping people and listing.  Growing up and living in the City of Philadelphia for all 31 years of my life has opened many doors for me.  I know a lot of people in this City and thus my business started off in the right direction.  I enjoy working with Family, Friends, and all of the people that I have met along the way.  I take pride in working with Buyers and Sellers alike, my ultimate goal is customer satisfaction, from this my business has grown from referrals!  I specialize in working with First Time Buyers, Investors, and current home owners who need to sell their current home in order to purchase another.  If you are looking for a knowledgeable hard working Real Estate Agent who has your BEST interest in mind then feel free to contact me at 215-359-8419 or visit me on the web at I hope to hear from you soon!!”
Ryan Straub

“When I tell people I have a slight touch of social anxiety disorder, people do not believe me because I have chosen a career as a full time Realtor. I have learned to overcome many of my personal challenges. There are a lot of things people do not know about me. For example, my favorite color is brown. Who likes the color brown and actually admits it? My favorite vegetable is collard greens. I bet you did not expect that one. And one of the strangest and most memorable gifts I ever received from a client is a real bear skull.  I am still looking for the perfect place to display it. Any suggestions?”
Stephanie Somers

I became licensed in real estate to help people achieve the ultimate American Dream – owning a home. I specialize in representing older citizens and have gone to classes and received the official designation. My interests are many including; gardening, watching classic films, listening to music, cooking, baking, and socializing with friends.”
Don A. Sherman

“I foresee unlimited, rewarding possibilities in the field which has helped me grow personally and professionally into a very successful Realtor and Investor.  I devote myself to the profession 24/7 as a daily businessman who truly appreciates liability, protection and productivity to the fullest for the clients that I serve.  I work with investors, rehab specialists, first time buyers, and have full knowledge of the entire city of Philadelphia and it’s surrounding areas.  I anticipate my success rate to be double within the next five years because” failure is never an option”.”
Ed Quigley

“I was born in Cambodia and am part Chinese, Thai, and Cambodian and am fluent in my native Cambodian language and speak enough of the Vietnamese language to hold a conversation.  I came to America at the age of 12, and grew up right here in the heart of this wonderful city of brotherly love, around the Philadelphia International Airport area.  I graduated from Georgia Tech and have been in the field of Social Services via the Commonwealth of PA for the last 15 years. ”

“Thinking about working and making money in the real estate industry, making new friends and helping people find their dream home truly excites me. Finalizing my decision to join Remax Access, was very smooth.  I was very inspired by Steve, Chris, and Gino in such a way that every step was made at ease!  I am still amazed with my decision in joining such awesome team of management, who has proven that they will always keep their door of support system open from every angle!!”

Celebrate 100 Years of the Richmond Branch Library with the Phillie Phanatic

richmond-library-752x1024We’re not sure if the Phillie Phanatic is an avid reader, but the Richmond Branch library has been ensuring that residents of Port Richmond are for years. 100 of them, to be exact.

So they’re celebrating their 100th Anniversary with the lovable Phillies mascot as their Master of Ceremonies. The birthday blowout will include A Taste of Port Richmond Buffet and music from The Sounds of Liberty barbershop chorus and Sugar Jazz Quartet. It all happens on Saturday, March 20 from noon to 3 p.m. Read the flier for details, bookworm.

According to the history on the library website, Richmond began at as a “traveling library” of 300 books in a flour and feed store on Richmond Street in 1897. It moved around for years before opening in 1910 at the current location. The branch was renovated in 1994.

A Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt Through Kensington and Fishtown

help-wanted-scavengerThe bright text on the flier immediately draws the eyes. It says Help Wanted, but it’s not a job ad.

It’s a scavenger hunt. It’s a community adventure. It’s a chance to really connect with your neighbors.

As part of this year’s Fishtown Shadfest (which we had an excellent time at last year), the NKCDC is organizing a neighborhood scavenger hunt that explores the work history of Fishtown, Kensington, and the waterfront. They’re calling it Help Wanted, and they want you to try to complete it. You can register now by contacting They will choose teams and where your team starts based on an assigned occupation. It sounds mysterious and random, right? It also sounds like a serious amount of fun.

The challenge involves a cell phone, which will be used to text clues and riddles to teams. Your team will then be sent off into historical Kensington and Fishtown, searching for the answers. You’ll eventually be led to a final location, where prizes will be awarded to winners. The two-hour quest is entirely free. Anyone can participate and families can sign up as teams, with a limit of 15 participants per team. We wish you luck and hope you know your neighborhood quite well. You’ll need to.

For more info on the Shadfest, read our post about last year’s event and visit the Shadfest site.

Help Wanted Scavenger Hunt,
