More New Development In Northern Liberties.

410 green

By: Jarek Cotto

If you were to drive around Northern Liberties you would see new developments at various levels on so many blocks. There is a trend of consistent development in the neighborhood. It’d be hard to walk more than a block or two before seeing a development that’s under five years old.

A smaller project is at 410 Green St., a new single family home thats being built. The lot is just a corner parcel for now which serves as a small parking lot. It’s where Green Street intersects with N. Lawrence street. Silk City is also around the corner as well. The Northern Liberties Neighbors Neighbors Association supported plans recently for a home with a garage, designed by Harman Deutsch.

Just across the street from the new development, a proposal to knock down the Color Reflections warehouse at 413 Green St. was struck. According to OCF Realty, they plan to, “build ten new homes, with four fronting Green and the rest facing Wallace.” In January, workers were inside the main Color Reflections building at 4th & Green working to convert it into apartments, and across the street at the northwest corner, a building was recently demolished to make room for ten new homes that will eventually rise there.

FYI: Council President Wants ShotSpotter Tech In Philly.

By: Jarek Cotto

A 15-year-old teen was jumped by a group of young males at a subway platform in Center City. The assault took place on Thursday, March 19th at around 4 p.m. Video footage shows the large group of males pumble the victim to the ground, then fleeing the scene. Detectives are still looking for the suspects.

Council President Darrell Clarke wants to bring new technology to Philadelphia which helps locate and track shootings in our city. It is called ShotSpotter, and it is already being used in Camden and in parts of New York where it is said to be effective in reducing shooting crimes.

New Mexican Joint Coming to Fishtown!

By: Jarek Cotto

If you’ve been around Fishtown you may have noticed a tiny building on a vacant Frankford Ave. corner. 1431-35 Frankford Ave. has just been sitting there for years, and we were beginning to wonder if it would ever be redeveloped since there is so much construction going on in the surrounding area. Finally, it looks like we got our answer. The Fishtown Neighbors Association recently supported plans for a take-out taco shack at this location run by the owners of Modo Mio. If you ever been to Modo Mio, you’d know that this taco shack has the chance to be a real hit.

Just across the street from the shack is another Frankford Ave. project. According to OCF Realty, it will be a “mixed-use proposal for three four-story buildings with ground-floor commercial”. Just down the block from the future stand, is a church on Marlborough that will soon be demolished. The church is coming down to make room for six single-family homes.

The lot that will eventually house the taco shack used to be a hot dog stand then a breakfast luncheonette, and then it was vacant for a while. Back in 2005, it was first listed for sale, then again in 2009 for $125K. Fishbone Real Estate eventually snagged this lot in March of 2013 for $105K. Since its just three blocks from the hustle and bustle of Girard Ave.,there is no doubt that the new business will be welcomed by the neighborhood.

By: Jarek Cotto

Man gets 35 years in prison after trying to rob a Cosi for the third time! Why did he get that long? He was prosecuted under the federal Hobbs Act which gives stiffer sentences for armed robberies of businesses involved in interstate commerce. More below.
